This short guide outlines the key steps and considerations to help ensure your referral process is smooth, efficient, and clinically predictable.
1️⃣ Identify Suitable Cases for Referral
When assessing a patient for potential implant treatment, consider referring when:
-
- A tooth is missing, failing, or unrestorable, and the patient desires a fixed solution
- The adjacent teeth are intact and you wish to avoid a bridge preparation
- There are sufficient periodontal health and bone volume to support implant placement (or bone augmentation may be indicated)
- The patient has realistic expectations and good oral hygiene
If you are unsure about case suitability, we are happy to offer case planning discussions with you by telephone or to review radiographs before formal referral.
2️⃣ Gather and Share Essential Clinical Information
Before sending your referral, please include:
-
- A recent periapical or panoramic radiograph (CBCT if available)
- Relevant medical and dental history, including periodontal and restorative notes
- Reason for referral (e.g., “single missing upper premolar – implant assessment and placement”)
- Patient contact details and your preferred communication method
This ensures our team can triage and plan efficiently before the consultation.
3️⃣ Discuss the Referral with Your Patient
Before referring, take a few minutes to explain to your patient:
-
- That The Implant Experts will carry out the surgical phase of treatment
- If you are one of our Partners in Practice team that you will be restoring the implant once healing is complete
- We will provide a full treatment plan and cost estimate before proceeding
- Inform patient about our consultation fees; £75 for an implant consultation & £95 for a periodontal consultation – point them to our fees https://theimplantexperts.com/our-fees/
This clarity helps manage expectations and reinforces a sense of shared care between you, your patient, and our team.
4️⃣ Submit the Referral
The easiest way to submit a referral is by using our custom made online forms:
📞 01622 751553
While we recommend the use of our online referral form, we are able to accept referrals by phone. However, we kindly request that the referring dentist subsequently completes and submits the referral form.
Once received, our team will contact your patient directly to arrange their consultation and keep you informed at each stage.
5️⃣ Stay Informed Throughout the Process
We provide:
- Written treatment updates at every key stage
- Pre- and post-surgical reports
In addition If you are one of our Partners in Practice team:
- Guidance and component details for the restorative phase
- Access to support from our clinical and technical team when restoring
You are always welcome to contact us if you would like to discuss the case, materials, or restoration protocols in more detail.
6️⃣ Restoring the Case (If you are one of our Partners in Practice team)
Once osseointegration is confirmed and your patient is ready for restoration:
- You will receive a clinical summary, component information, and laboratory details.
- Our team is available for chairside advice, scan protocols, or impression guidance.
- We also offer hands-on study clubs and mentoring to support you through your first few restorations
- *If you need us to order any components, please send an email to reception@theimplantexperts.com
